After reading the story, it was crazy to see how everyone relied on the machine so much. People couldn’t think without the machine. It was kind of an eye opener to see how much technology can have an effect on society. The story reminds me a little bit of the world today, where people rely so much on smart phones. Communication styles and learning habits have changed tremendously due to technology. The story seemed to exaggerate the reliance of technology because I doubt in the future we would need to be so dependent on technology in order to live, but who knows.
It was different to see the author's take on when humans would be born, the strong would be killed off and the weak would survive. Usually in types of stories like this it’s the opposite where the strong would survive. I couldn’t believe that human interaction was just gone. I thought that was a little confusing. Humans need other humans to survive. It's bad to isolate yourself from people.
Overall, it was a good story and interesting to see how far technology can take us and change society. This was a great read for our class because the story showed how intricate the machine was and how it all couldn’t have been created without the use of programming and computer science. I wonder how long it would take to create something so complex like that in today's world.
