This article was very interesting. I didn't realize computers can discriminate different types of people. It makes sense though, if you don't use different groups in the creating stage then the computer algorithm won't understand the differences and will primarily pick the people that were used in the test study. Most algorithm bias occurs on job websites and social media. Where advertisements will be sent to you just based on your gender, race, and region you live in. I haven't heard of many the examples in the article, but I did hear about the job resume bias. That one was crazy because you're expecting other humans to read your resume, not a computer. You could have a really good resume and the algorithm on the computer could still throw it away if something is slightly off. It's kind of scary to see that computer systems can either make or break someone's future. This definitely changes my perception of computers, where they shouldn't be relied upon so much as well as they aren't the smartest things. More awareness for algorithmic bias is necessary. Companies can't rely on it fully. In order for algorithms to work properly, companies must question everything and realize all different types of variables, so it could become bias free.
